CHURCH’S BRIEF HISTORY: In 1934, with only two members on the roll, services were held in the old Verona School Building. Others came and the first church was erected as the Verona Methodist Church in 1937. The cornerstone was laid in 1938. Fire partially destroyed the building on October 30, 1967,and the members of the church went into action completing the rebuilding program in May 1969.
Verona Methodist Church became Verona United Methodist Church in 1968 when the Evangelical United Brethren Church merged with the Methodist Church. Additional properties adjoining the church property were purchased in 1988 (the Raleigh Dixon Home plot) and in 2011 (the Oliver Allen plot, used to accommodate future expansion needs of a Fellowship Building). Construction began on the Fellowship Building in 2010, and the Certificate of Occupancy was presented September 2011.
On January 1, 2023, Verona Methodist Church officially disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church and became a Global Methodist Church congregation. Indeed, we are proud of our heritage and how far we have come since our humble beginnings in 1934. We are grateful for those who have gone before us, who were faithful in spreading Christ’s light to our community and world. They have left us a wonderful legacy. We ask for God’s strength as we continue to carry the torch of our faith forward to this generation and generations to come!
